The fact that five people are playing the same guitar at the same time is pretty cool, sure. But it's the song itself I can't get out of my head. I bought it on iTunes and have listened to it over and over and over...Maybe it's not your type of music. I just think it's a great song.
(At the beginning, Terry thought they were playing "Baa Baa Black Sheep." And she's right, it does sound like that, along with "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the ABC song.)
Anyway, give it a listen and let me know what you think:

ReplyDeleteWhy, is it in your head now?
ReplyDeleteI like it. The video by the original singer (I think) is pretty cool too.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's in my head cuz I like it, too. And it's cool that they're all on one guitar. Dammit
ReplyDeleteDay #2 since I downloaded the song and it's still on heavy, heavy rotation.
ReplyDeleteHey Scott, this is Nolan, Nathan's son.
ReplyDeleteMi madre suggested I check out your blog, because when you're as attached to the Interwebz as I am, why not?
This song to me to sound like the Police until the chick comes in. Speaking of music, now that I've stumbled across your blog it's reminded me to go dig some SRO cassettes out of their box. 15 years and I haven't listened to my dad's own music...shameful, I know.
So Brazilians at your house is pretty awesome. I've got a few foreign friends, including a Bulgarian immigrant and a British buddy but I've never met a South American besides one of my Spanish teachers. Any cool quirks?
That's my entire speal for now, cool blog, and thanks for the birthday call for padre.
Nolan: So great to have you here! And I totally agree with the idea that this song is Police-like. A few simple chords propelled by a repetitive bass line with a great melody. That's the formula Sting has used to make millions of dollars over the last 30 years!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, you must listen to some SRO. It's going to sound pretty dated at this point, 21 years after we recorded it. But I always thought your dad wrote some great tunes. A lot of fun to play.
As for the Brazilians, they're a fun bunch. Very touchy feely (they like to hug) and very open and honest. They're trying to teach me Portuguese. I think it's an uphill battle for them.
Anyway, like I said, good to have you around. Hope to hear from you again soon!
Very cool song! I agree --- sound very much like The Police. Just missing Andy Summer's cool reggae guitar.
ReplyDeleteWow, 5 people on one guitar. Well, now it is stuck in my head, and I want to learn how to play it. I just need 4 more people...
